- 1 can biscuit dough (8-count, regular or buttermilk)
- 1 pound ground breakfast sausage
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tablespoon butter (for greasing, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground sausage until fully cooked. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Sprinkle flour over sausage. Stir and cook for 1 minute.
- Slowly pour in milk, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
- Simmer until gravy thickens, about 4–6 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, and optional spices.
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
- Cut biscuits into quarters and place half into the bottom of the dish.
- Pour sausage gravy evenly over the biscuits.
- Top with remaining biscuit pieces.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, until top is golden and biscuits are cooked through.
- Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- This dish can be served with a side of eggs for a complete breakfast.
- Optional toppings include shredded cheese or chopped green onions.
