Key Ingredients for Carrot Cake Cinnamon Rolls Gluten Free

Fresh Carrots

For the best flavor in your carrot cake cinnamon rolls gluten free, nothing beats using freshly grated carrots. They provide natural sweetness and moisture that bring the rolls to life. If you’re short on time, pre-packaged shredded carrots can work in a pinch, although I find the fresh ones give a superior taste and texture.

Gluten-Free Flour Blend

To get that fluffy, pillowy texture, a gluten-free all-purpose flour blend is essential. Look for one that already includes xanthan gum; it helps mimic the elasticity of traditional flour, making your rolls tender and delightful.

Cream Cheese

In the frosting and filling, cream cheese is the star. The tanginess cuts through the sweetness, making it perfectly balanced. It helps create a rich, velvety topping that’s simply irresistible.

Spices

A blend of cinnamon and nutmeg is key in achieving that classic carrot cake flavor. These warm spices infuse the rolls with a comforting aroma that fills your kitchen and makes them a beloved treat.

Maple Syrup

For a touch of natural sweetness, maple syrup shines in this recipe. It enhances the flavor profile, bringing out the earthy notes of the carrots while keeping everything gluten-free and delicious.

Using these key ingredients, your carrot cake cinnamon rolls gluten free will be nothing short of extraordinary!

Tips for Making Perfect Carrot Cake Cinnamon Rolls

Creating carrot cake cinnamon rolls gluten free is as much about the process as it is about the ingredients. Here are some essential tips to ensure your rolls turn out perfectly every time.

Choose the Right Flour

Using a quality gluten-free flour blend is crucial for achieving the best texture. Look for a blend that contains xanthan gum or add a teaspoon of it to help with elasticity. This ensures your rolls rise beautifully and maintain a soft, tender crumb.

Fresh Ingredients Matter

When it comes to flavor, always opt for fresh, high-quality ingredients. Use freshly grated carrots for a sweet and moist roll; they’ll provide a natural sweetness and vibrant color. Don’t skimp on the spices—cinnamon and nutmeg should be fresh for the best aromatic experience.

Don’t Rush the Dough

Patience is key! Allow your dough to rise adequately; this develops the flavor and texture. Let it double in size in a warm place. If you’re uncertain about timing, keep an eye on the dough instead of the clock.

Roll with Care

When rolling your dough, be gentle. Too much pressure can cause your rolls to become dense. Spread your cinnamon filling evenly and avoid overstuffing, as this can lead to messy rolls that are hard to handle.

Bake with Attention

Keep an eye on your rolls while they bake. Every oven is different, and gluten-free treats often need a little more TLC. You want them golden and baked through, but not overly dry. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean.

These tips can make all the difference, turning your carrot cake cinnamon rolls gluten free into a delightful treat that everyone will love!

Description

A delicious gluten-free cinnamon roll bread recipe made with Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Bread Mix.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 16 ounce bag Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Bread Mix (NOT all purpose flour!)
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast (one standard packet)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 2 eggs (room temperature)
  • 6 tablespoons butter (melted then cooled slightly)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • ~ 1/4 cup GF all purpose flour for rolling the dough (do not add into the dough itself, just for rolling it out!)
  • 6 tablespoons softened butter
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons cinnamon
  • 3/4 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 4 ounces plain cream cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. To the bowl of a stand mixer, add the flour, yeast, sugar, salt and baking powder. Be sure to use instant yeast and not the yeast packet from the flour.
  2. The bread mix comes with a package of yeast, but you want to use instant yeast so discard that package or save for another recipe.
  3. Mix on low until combined with the dough hook.
  4. Warm the milk in the microwave for about 1 minute or until warm like bath water. You don’t want it too hot or it will kill the yeast, but too cold and it won’t activate the yeast.
  5. With the mixer running on low, pour in the milk, then the melted/slightly cooled butter, eggs and vanilla extract.
  6. Mix for about 30 seconds, then scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl to ensure everything is well combined.
  7. Add in the carrots, then turn the mixer to medium/low speed and let knead the dough for about 5 minutes.
  8. Let the dough sit for a few minutes.
  9. Meanwhile, whisk together the sugar and spices in a bowl and set aside.
  10. Add the 6 tablespoons of butter to a bowl and melt for about 15-20 seconds, then stir so it just looks softened and not fully melted. Set aside.
  11. Transfer the dough to a floured surface (I usually use parchment paper and flour it generously with GF all-purpose flour to really ensure no sticking).
  12. Roll into a 12×15 rectangle using a floured rolling pin.
  13. Carefully brush the butter on top, then sprinkle with the spiced sugar. Add on the chopped nuts if using.
  14. Working from the 15 inch end, use a pizza cutter to cut out 12 strips about 1 1/4 inch wide (so each strip will be 1 1/4 inch x 12 inches). You can also make 10 large rolls and cut each 1 1/2 inch wide.
  15. Roll each strip into the roll and place in a greased 9×13 baking pan.
  16. Cover with plastic wrap then top with a dish towel and let rise for 1 hour. I will usually just place on top of my oven. You want a slightly warm environment, so if your house is cold, preheat the oven first.
  17. Toward the end of the hour, preheat the oven to 350 Fahrenheit.
  18. Once the rolls have risen (they won’t quite double in size but will puff up a bit), bake for 24-30 minutes, depending on your oven and preference.
  19. Meanwhile, whisk together the melted butter and cream cheese for the glaze, then slowly add in the powdered sugar, 1/2 cup at a time until smooth. Whisk in the vanilla.
  20. When the rolls are done, let cool for about 5 minutes, then top with the glaze and enjoy!
